Our Home, Our Sweet Home (April 28, 2013)

On Monday, April 22 (Earth Day), we closed on our first home. We are very excited that we will be bringing our baby home to a house that is our own. During our first day we had 6 deer go through our yard. There are also a variety of birds as we are fairly close to the river. We even have a pair of American Kestrels in the neighborhood.

Farrah is adjusting well to the new home. She has a nice big yard and we plan to get a fence up this spring so that she can really explore the new space on her own. There are many, many, many dogs in the neighborhood. She will not be short on friends. Farrah and I went for a walk on Thursday morning and saw 11 deer in the neighborhood. She stayed by my side and watched them intently.

The baby is still incubating. We are currently a week overdue. The baby is very healthy and I'm feeling great. The doctor is wanting to induce. I'm trying to put it off until 42 weeks. I've been trying to self induce lately. Tonight we had spicy thai food with Luke and Cheryl. This morning Jon, Farrah and I hiked to the top of Enger Tower. We then went up a second time but ran up. I'm pretty impressed with the fact that I am over 9 months pregnant and can run up the stairs at Enger Tower.

Hopefully baby news will be coming soon. Until then, Jon, Farrah and I are enjoying our new home and can't wait for our next addition to show up.

Phenology: Tuesday, April 23- heard and saw a flock of red-wing blackbirds.

Record Snow for April in Duluth (April 19, 2013)

Last Sunday/Monday brought more snow and a flash of lightning followed by a roll of thunder. Very cool!

We woke up this morning to a record Duluth snowfall for the month of April. I'm not sure what the total is so far, but it is a record. Something to tell the baby when he/she is older.

Speaking of baby, today is the due date. It has come and is almost gone. No baby yet. Baby and mommy are however getting bigger.

Recent snowfall.

Mama and Baby are getting bigger!

Farrah is getting bigger too!

Spring Welcomes Winter Back to the Northland (Saturday, April 13, 2013)

Phenology:
Wednesday, April 10, 2013- Heard our first American robin of the season singing from our house in Duluth.
Thursday, April 11, 2013- Saw our first American robin of the season on a walk near our house. Snowstorm went through the Duluth area starting around 11:30 am on Thursday and snowing until sometime Friday night/Saturday morning. I was even privileged to hear the low rumbling of thunder on three occasions. Never heard that during a snowstorm before! It was very eerie.

There were 7 large ships in the bay this morning as well as an icebreaker. We think the snowstorm probably caused them to seize travel for awhile. That is the most we've seen in the bay at one time. It looked like a battleship board all set-up for play. Lake Superior is truly a huge lake!

Baby...Coming Soon! (April 7, 2013)

Wow! We are less than 2 weeks away from baby time. Unless, of course, babe decides to stay in that cozy space longer. Here are some picture updates of what we have been up to. My time has been dedicated to Farrah, medical transcription, and "nesting". Jon has been the hard working husband taking on way too many jobs. Now that reffing is over, he has started coaching golf. This spring and summer he will be working at the Cloquet pool as their manager. I don't know how he is going to juggle it all, especially with our baby arriving soon, but he never seizes to amaze me. Below are some pictures from the past month or so. It's really more of a series of pictures of our first baby, Farrah. What can we say? She's so adorable.

Phenology:
-Monday, March 11- first spring call of the black-capped chickadee heard at our home in Duluth.
-Thursday, March 28- first spring sighting of a chipmunk at my parent's in Wascott, Wisconsin.
-Sunday, March 31- noticed buds on trees in Duluth.
